Volunteer Position Descriptions
Message Center Mavin (Estimate of 1 hr/day, for 1 month shift at a time)
We need people who will be willing to retrieve messages from our message center. Each day you will send an email with a summary of all the calls. You may also be making follow-up phone calls. Access to email is required.
PAC Coordinator (Estimate of 2-4 hrs/week)
The PoundHounds ACO Collaboration (PAC) program is a wonderful grassroots program created by PoundHounds. We’ve successfully raised over $30,000 in grant money to enable Animal Control Officers (ACOs) to get pound dogs spayed/neutered, vaccinated and receive advanced medical care if they need it. We’re looking for a people-oriented person who is willing to call ACOs to follow up on vet appointments, collect information on dogs adopted through the program, etc. Relationships are key to the success of the program and documentation is key to getting additional funding to help more dogs in town pounds. Email and phone work required, and ability to maintain records (in Word, Excel or Access) highly desirable.
Fundraising Fan (Flexible)
Do you have experience with grant writing? Would you like to help us find funds to continue our operations? If you’re someone that loves the excitement of fundraising – writing letters to area businesses for donations or products for auctions, organizing mailing lists and promotional campaigns – we’d love to put your energy to work.
Publicity Hound (Flexible)
Are you someone who is comfortable talking to the press – newspapers, radio, television? PoundHounds has been involved in some wonderful rescues, held great fundraising events, and started landmark programs in animal welfare. We’d love to find a volunteer who is willing to spend a few hours a month writing press releases, contacting the press around special events, and collecting rescue stories to use in publicity campaigns.
Event Coordinator (Flexible)
Do you enjoy taking charge of things? Are you good at organizing people? We need people who would be interested in assisting with the coordination of our fundraising events.
Craft Creator / Baker (Flexible)
Can you sew, mold, paint, bake, or bead? We need crafts to sell at different events in order to raise money for medical care, advertising, and training. If you can make 5, 50, or 500 items, we’d love to have them.
Craft Coordinator (Flexible)
Do you love making crafts and baking in addition to coordinating events? Would you like to take charge of overseeing our crafters and bakers? This position would be perfect for you. We need someone to coordinate our crafts and baked goods for events. Includes lining up crafters/bakers, coordinating transportation of final products to event site, and creating new opportunities for fundraising with crafts.
Table Tender (Esimate of 2-4 hrs per event)
Would you be willing to sit at a table for 2-4 hours a few times a year to hand out brochures and sell merchandise?
Photography Fancier (Estimate of 2-4 hrs per event)
Are you skilled with a digital camera? Would you be willing to take pictures of dogs in town pounds? Would you be willing to be the photographer at special events that we hold? If so, sign up now and start clicking away!
Computer Conjurer (Flexible)
Are you familiar with word processing, graphics programs, or databases? Can you help us with flyers, posters and mailers? Or data entry into our database? If your fingers fly across the keys, this is an excellent position for you!
Events Equipment & Supplies (Flexible, 2 hrs/week during special events)
Would you like to help out with our fundraising events by signing on to take care of different aspects like equipment or supplies? We usually need a wide variety of items, so this can be a very diverse position!
Volunteer Invigorator (Flexible)
Are you a people person? Do you want to help out with our volunteer program? We’re looking for people to assist with the volunteer database, the volunteer newsletter, and contacting potential volunteers or following up with volunteers.
Foster Fellow (Estimate of full time care for a short term)
Foster care for dogs is just like foster care for kids - we often find ourselves in need of a temporary home for dogs who need to be taken out of a pound immediately or perhaps have rehabilitation requirements. Prior experience is highly desirable, of course. If you are interested in being a foster mom or dad, we’ll give you more information about what this responsibility entails.
