PoundHounds saves puppy from euthanasia

Dasher is a sweet German Shepherd mix puppy hit by a car in Fitchburg.  Dasher was abandoned as a 4-month-old puppy, left to fend for himself.  Wandering the streets, he was hit by a car and his leg was badly broken.

Dasher needed surgery to repair his broken leg.  Most towns in Massachusetts will not spend their limited budgets on medical care for stray dogs.  Many Animal Control Officers (ACOs) are not even allowed to fundraise for animal care.  If an ACO cannot find a shelter to take the dog (and many are not in a position to take an injured or ill animal), the only option is euthanasia. For a four month old puppy!

That was going to be Dasher's fate. Until the ACO called PoundHounds for help.  We paid for Dasher's surgery, which was close to $1,000 and his vaccinations. We also covered his neutering costs, another $284.

PoundHounds has a unique mission in Massachusetts.  We raise money to help dogs just like Dasher receive a second chance at life.  Last year was the first time we had to turn dogs away for lack of funds.  Please help us continue to help deserving pups.  If you think your town's ACO might need help, please have the ACO contact us at info@poundhounds.org.

Update: Thanks to PoundHounds and Fitchburg Animal Control, Dasher has healed and is now in his forever home.

PoundHounds Sponsors Abandoned Dog's Surgery

Frankie, a 4-month-old puppy, was found next to a dumpster in Fitchburg.  The Fitchburg Animal Control Officer contacted PoundHounds for help funding the surgery Frankie needed to fix his leg. PoundHounds was happy to help and payed $2073.48 for Frankie's surgery.  Frankie is now recovering and doing well.  He has already gotten his staples out and will get his pins out soon.

PoundHounds Pays for Daisy's Stitches

Daisy, a 13-year-old dog at the Billerica Animal Shelter is afraid of loud noises.  One night, there was a very loud noise and Daisy broke out of her kennel tearing open her mouth and losing a tooth.  Daisy needed emergency medical attention.  The Billerica Animal Shelter contacted PoundHounds, as they did not have the funds to pay for Daisy's care.  Thanks to PoundHounds, Daisy received the stitches and medical care that she desperately needed.

Over a decade of dedication to town pounds

ACOs:  If you have a dog in need, contact PoundHounds NOW for help with funding! We have funding available for spay/neuter surgeries and other medical care. We are especially interested in helping ACOs who have little or no funds for this kind of care and/or have limited fundraising capabilities but who do adopt out dogs themselves

Donors: PoundHounds has helped over 1,000 dogs in town pounds, providing badly needed funds to Animal Control Officers for everything from emergency surgery to training to Kuranda beds to basic medical care. Because of the economy, fundraising has been declining over the last three years, while the requests for help keep pouring in. We need your help more than ever.

Great dogs looking for great homes

PoundHounds is proud to help invisible dogs in town pounds and shelters find their forever homes. Please check out the wonderful dogs on our Dogs in Need page that we are trying to make more visible, so their people (and we know you're out there somewhere) can find them and fall in love. At the end of each dog description, you will find the contact person for each dog. Please consider adopting an older dog. So many more are being abandoned by the side of the road and left to fend for themselves. Sometimes people take dogs to be euthanized because they can't afford to keep them, or their landlord won't let them have a dog. These dogs may be a little traumatized and need some TLC, but they are often wonderful, loyal, and loving dogs. Thank you for reading their stories and helping to spread the word.

Pacey's Success Story!

You would think that a 1 and 1/2 year old energetic Pointer mix would find a home easily, but Pacey's boundless energy made him hard to adopt. The Taunton Animal Shelter asked PoundHounds to cross-post him, and, thankfully, the perfect owner found him through our site. Click here to read more about Pacey's new life on our Happy Tails page.
