Training for Pound Dogs
PoundHounds believes that providing a sponsored training program for pound dogs is an invaluable way to assist ACOs. We will offer ACOs sponsored training for pound dogs whose adoption chances are greatly diminished (or have been rehomed multiple times already) due to manageable behavior issues, such as housebreaking, jumping, chewing, barking, high prey drive, etc.
Training for pound dogs is becoming more urgent, as more private shelters tighten their qualifications for taking in dogs because they are worried about taking pound dogs with behavior issues. Dogs with behavior problems are frequently tagged “unadoptable,” which can be a death sentence for dogs in town pounds.
If rescues and private shelters cannot provide training, it is certain that most ACOs cannot. If we can find a way to help these dogs in the town pounds, or to help adopters who are willing to adopt dogs with behavior issues by including training assistance in the adoption package, we can reach this animal population as well.
PoundHounds is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization. We have accomplished our work on behalf of these wonderful dogs through your generous support. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to PoundHounds, so we can help more dogs in town pounds.
