Did you know that ...

  • Very strong inhibitions against biting humans was bred into the American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) lines so that the breed became reknowned for its loving devotion to humans.

  • In colonial times, APBTs were entrusted to protect homesteads from predators and were constant companions to the young children who were in their care.

  • For most of this century, Americans admired the APBT for qualities that it likened in itself -- friendly, brave, hardworking, worthy of respect -- and made the Pit Bull the All American Dog -- Buster Brown's companion was an APBT, World War I posters displayed APBTs as proud mascots of neutrality and bravery, and Helen Keller, Theodore Roosevelt, and Fred Astaire all had APBTs.

  • The American Canine Temperament Testing Association, which sponsors tests for all temperament titles for dogs, reported that 95% of all APBTs that take the test pass, compared with a 77% passing rate for all breeds on average.

Please take time to learn about this wonderful dog and don't let the humans who have misused and mishandled the breed spell an end to a true American dog.
